The Island of Romblon

Romblon province, located in the heart of the Philippine archipelago remains one of the unexplored islands in the country. It is a cluster of more than 20 islands the three biggest of which are Tablas, Sibuyan and Romblon. See Map.

A general hospital and provincial police command is also located on the island.A wonderful time to visit Romblon would be during the second weekend of January which kicks off the Biniray Celebration in honor of the Child Jesus or Santo Nino. The nine-day celebration is complete with street parades and dancing, townhall dances and pageants as well as competitions. Throughout summer, check out various town fiestas for a feel of simple, local celebrations.

Various activities await the adventurer such as mountain hiking, island exploration, island hopping, marblecraft and town tour. Romblon offers wonderful snorkelling although it has not been spared the coral-bleaching brought on by El Nino. Although local enforcement protecting reefs and marine life need to be strengthened, experts claim Romblon island's reefs remain 70-80% intact.
