EMC was formed in 1989 by engineers from the California Institute of Technology. EMC's pioneering efforts in 1989 allowed EMC to concentrate in providing internet connectivity to remote and communications-hostile provincial areas like Bukidnon and Davao. EMC's primary focus then was to provide robust and reliable e-mail and internet services in the Philippines.
Since then, EMC has always innovated as an ISP and continuously pursued a distinctly Filipino strategy of Internet connectivity. EMC is first to provide dial-up access, personalized e-mail address, a basic e-mail access package, online conferencing, satellite to radio Internet gateways and is the only ISP that can successfully gate a variety of e-mail platforms over non-dedicated dial-up links. This is accomplished via LANAXS, our alternative to expensive leased lines.
EMC is the Philippine Distributor for Centrinity's FirstClass (a truly great E-Mail product) and the Infinite Technologies line of products: Interchange, Webmail, Connect2, and Waplite (a low-cost enterprise WAP gateway for Banks, Stock Brokerages, and Medium to Large Scale Corporations).
EMC
becomes the Philippine's first Internet Service Provider (ISP),
providing dial-up access 4 years ahead of any other Provider.
EMC
is the 1st ISP to offer customized domains and E-Mail Addresses, 5
years before Network Solutions in Reston, Virginia, starts to sell
domains on a commercial basis.
EMC,
in conjunction with Washington DC based VITA (www.vita.org), completes
the 1st packet-satellite to packet-radio Internet gateway. This gateway
allows VHF/UHF radio users in Africa, who have no access to telephones,
to use their computers to connect with the Internet via satellite. Data
is transmitted at 2400 baud over packet-radio TNCs connected to
standard UHF/VHF radios. The Data is relayed over the Pacrad network
into a base station. The EMC gateway then converts the data for
transmission to an oribiting VITA satellite. Once the satellite crosses
over to the US, the data is beamed down, then gated into the Internet.
EMC
launches EMC Online, the first Online Content Service in the
Philippines which allow its subscribers to forge a strong & dynamic
Online Community via Online CHAT forums.
EMC
successfully deploys the 1st handheld cellphone-Internet Gateway, using
an HP100LX, a Smart Cellphone, and Megahertz v.32biz PCMCIA modem. The
service is successfully tested in Remote, Communications-hostile
environments including areas near Mt. Kitanglad, Bukidnon, and Mt.
Hibok-hibok in Camiguin Island. Up to the present day, EMC is the only
ISP able to provide reliable cellular connections to the Internet
throughout the archipelago.
EMC introduces "Basic" E-Mail Only Service, the 1st (and only) low-cost Internet Access Product in the Philippines. This service is geared to work robustly under noisy phone line conditions. Unlike POP3 mail clients, which have problems downloading file-attachments larger than 1 Mb , EMC uses a z-modem protocol variant that allows huge file-attachments to succesfully download, even when phone line conditions are so bad and are disconnected every 2 minutes!
EMC
successfully Gates Firstclass, cc-Mail, Microsoft Mail, and Groupwise
Mail Servers to the Internet over NON-dedicated dial-up links. This
service is christened LANAXS. It takes at least 3 years before other
ISPs in the Philippines are able to offer this service on dial-up
links.
EMC
is the 1st ISP to successfully deploy Lotus Notes LANAXS and MS
Exchange Gating. Other Lotus Notes SMTP gateways are plagued with
problems, such as an inability to handle more than 10 simultaneous SMTP
sessions. Other MS-Exchange gateways are unable to provide seamless
Webmail access. EMC LANAXs seamlessly resolves these problems.
EMC
becomes the 1st fully-redundant Network Operating Center in the
Philippines. This means that every server has an Online Backup on
Standby, allowing EMC to provide 100% Uptime Service Levels.
EMC
introduces DSL Managed Broadband Services, securing your Intranet from
unwanted hacker attack, and turbo-charging the speed of your DSL
connection with the use of intelligent proxy-caches.
EMC launches Off Peak Access which provides subscribers additional hours from 9:00 pm to 7:00 am.
EMC has made available the BPI Express Online Payment facility for payment of bills.
