ANSWERS

  1. Is it alright to save my dial-up password/UserID/Username?

You may save userID/username in your computer, but not your password.

Being the owner or authorized user of the account we discourage you from saving your password in the computer because it becomes easy for anyone to use the account without your knowledge.

  2. Is my Internet Service Provider (ISP) accountable when my dial-up account is hacked?

No. Your ISP should not be held accountable for any unauthorized use of your account for it has no control over how you use your internet connection.

  3. What is a Virus?

Computer Virus is a piece of executable code (program) that attaches itself to the computer files, boot sector or partition tables. Virus has the unique ability to replicate, and in most cases, deliver payload or damage routine.

    Types of Viruses

    Boot-sector Virus
The boot record is that part or the system software containing most of the instructions for booting, or powering up, the system. The boot sector virus replaces these boot instructions with some of its own program. Once the system is turned on, the virus loaded into the main memory before operating system. Any diskette that is used in the drive of the computer then becomes infected.

    File Virus
File viruses attach themselves to executable files-those that actually begin a program. (These files have the extensions .com and .exe). When the program runs, the virus starts working, trying to get into main memory and infecting other files.

    Worm
The worm spreads by replicating itself. It travels through networks to different computer systems, then makes many copies of itself, wasting vast amounts of computer time.

    Trojan Horse
The Trojan horse covertly places illegal, destructive instruction in the middle of a legitimate program, such as a computer game. Once you run the program, the Trojan horse goes to work, doing its damage while the user is blissfully unaware.

    Macro Virus
This is a computer virus that is encoded as a macro embedded in a document. Macro is a single character symbol, name key or work that performs a whole series of actions or commands

    Virus Definition
The virus definition or the virus pattern is the database of specific patterns that indicate the presence of a computer virus. This virus pattern is used by the antivirus utilities to detect the virus infection.
